Wild Flowers

One of the promises I made in starting a blog, was that I was going to take time to stop and smell the roses.  One of my favourite features of the spring are the wild flowers that herald in the season in the woodland.  Yesterday I forewent our usual Sunday afternoon walk on the back roads, and went off into the forest armed with my camera.  I hope you enjoy my capturings as much as I enjoyed seeing their cheery little faces.

fiddlehead ferns

purple violets

white trillium
red trillium (stinking lily)

Adder tongue/Dog's tooth violet
very immature Jack-in-the-pulpit

Growing up in Parry Sound district, there were many different spring flowers.  Unfortunately I did not locate Dutchman's Breeches, mayflowers (spring beauties) or hepaticas, yesterday.  I'm also a tad early for marsh marigolds.  It will be fun to take the same trip again in a few weeks to see how the pallet has changed.

??? No not dandelion - much earlier, and foliage is red

just nice green moss

??? Not sure what this is - two nice clumps on my property though

I know, not flowers, but kinda neat.
Horsetail of some venue.

fuzzy little fiddle heads

And that is about all I have to say for today.

  1. Did my walk-about a few weeks ago through Valley Forge woods to see wildflowers also. This is just a great time of the year. Unfortunately, it has been raining constantly and I have not had as much opportunity as I wish to see the changing scenery.

    Love those purple violets.

  2. Nice. I always loved trilliums, but the red one is great.
