Laughter Really Is The Best Medicine

We don't laugh often enough.  Sometimes the seriousness of life can weigh heavy.  I know all too often, I let the mundane crap of life etch away at my overall happiness.

A couple of weeks back, the Missus and I ran into another couple who used to be good friends, but life and circumstances had just drifted us apart.  They have actually moved back into our area, and we decided to get together for an evening.  Now usually a get-together means, we end up cooking all afternoon, and then cleaning up after guests go home.  Wisely our friends suggested we go out for supper to a new Indian eatery in town.

First of all the food was terrific - a buffet of many wonderful dishes and exotic flavours.  The ambience was relaxing: tasteful decor, heady aroma of curry and cardamon, attentive, but not cloying service, and a leisurely pace.  But it was the conversation that made the evening wonderful.  We mercilessly sliced and diced all the toads we have known, reminisced about happy times, caught up on the past few years, laughed and then laughed some more.   I'm sure folks around us thought that the suits with the straightjackets would be coming to pick us up shortly, but man it was good for the soul.

At the end of the evening our cheque arrived.  The Missus remarked we probably shouldn't do this too often; my feeling, we can't do it often enough.

And that is about all I have to say for today.

  1. I love to laugh, but you're right, we don't do it often enough. The responsibilities and schedules just press in. That's why I guess the mini-vacations, the brief moments of pleasure, can help be an antidote to all the crazy stuff in the world! Wish we could get together again!

  3. As my hubby and I have gotten older, we've become real homebodies. Used to have friends over every weekend. Now, we'd rather do our own thing. When we have the opportunity to socialize, even though neither of us is gung-ho about it initially, we always have such fun, and inevitably say, "We'll have to do this more often."

  4. I like the way you say "And that is all I have to say today." Inuit have a word "daima" (not sure of spelling) which means "I am finished."
Visits like these are well worth while.
I meet with half a dozen old boys on the 20th.

  5. Oh that food looks great. And you can never laugh too much. I am always looking to have more fun in life, but it's never enough.
