Last Of The Summer Flowers

I know I've shown you a lot of shots of flowers this summer.  However I think these are probably the last of the shots of the flower gardens for this year.  It is pretty unusual for us to get into October, frost-free.  I keep remarking to the Missus, that it seems strange to see fall chrysanthemums blooming furiously, beside the impatiens and petunias, who are usually long exhausted and composting by now.

One of my few dahlia blossoms

My homemade wheelbarrow is aging to a wonderful mellow, weathered grey patina.
Four O'clocks

Nasturtium - colourful and also entirely edible.
Myscanthus Gianteus just coming into its own.

The view at our road entrance.
Wonderful texture and colour from the Purple Millet.
Last of the Galliardia - has bloomed all summer, an exceptional perennial.

Oh, and by the way, for those of you who read my blog a week ago, about the morning glories, Righty actually put forth two feeble little flowers yesterday - I predict frost by tomorrow!

And that is about all I have to say for today.

Musings and meanderings from the Musical Gardener.

  1. You have a great set of shots of great flowers. I like your arrangements. Yes things are turning yellow over night from the light change and the cold. I really like Dahlias and yet have grown any for years.

  2. I began to say good bye to my summer garden yesterday. Although most are still blooming and look beautiful, I have decided to start the fall cleanup before the cold weather gets here. I have also bought my cabbages and kale to brighten up my front gardens. These will last most of the winter, depending on the severity of the weather. Hopefully, I will have it done by this weekend. It will be nice to look out at a new, fresh landscape.

  3. Your dahlia is gorgeous. I've always loved them, but can't bear to remove any of the buds so I can get the plate-sized blooms from the others.

  4. Much the same on this side of the ocean, lots of flowers having made a comeback in the last few weeks.

  5. Your Dahlia is stunning. I also like your grouping at the end of your road. That Purple Millet is rather good looking! I love my Gaillardia..it blooms here from July til frost. I have one that is plain yellow and one that is burgundy..I like the bi color one the best:)
