More Asiatic Lilies - Mid Season

Therefore, to be possess'd with double pomp,
To guard a title that was rich before,
To gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
To throw a perfume on the violet,
To smooth the ice, or add another hue
Unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
To seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish,
Is wasteful and ridiculous excess.   Shakespeare (King John 1595)

Even the Bard himself realized the lily for its perfection, and saw no need for further embellishment.

The Asiatic lilies are making a most impressive show in the gardens.  Below are a few more examples of the 'lilies of the fields'.

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (Matt. 6:28-29)

And that is about all I have to say for today.

  1. What magnificent lillies you have! The only problem with day lillies is that is each flower is true to their name and only last a day. The plant itself usually last about a week and a half, depending on their size, but I am left with the greens for months. I have moved most of them to the edge of my property so I can still see them and enjoy but not worry about their left-overs. They are one of the most beautiful of plants, I just wish they lasted longer.
